Dr. Valerie M. O’Hara, FAAP, FOMA, ABOM, Pediatric Obesity Physician Specialist at Weight Management Center Maine Medical Center, founder and Medical Director of WOW Clinic (2009 – 2020), WOW 4 Wellness Clinic (2020 -2022)
Dr. O’Hara brings 23 years of pediatric obesity medicine experience to her families and community. She received her board certification in Obesity Medicine in 2013 via the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She began this focused work as part of the Maine Youth Overweight Collaborative in 2000. Dr. O’Hara graduated from UNECOM in 1996 and completed her Pediatric Residency at Maine Medical Center in 1999. Dr. O’Hara presented research data at multiple National and International conferences, including OMA, AAP, The Obesity Society, European Congress on Obesity. She presented at the OMA 2023 Conference, sharing how to talk about obesity with families via the patient’s voice. Dr. O’Hara presented at the 11th International Meeting of Pediatric Endocrinology 3/2023 on Telemedicine for Adolescents living with obesity in Buenos Aires. She serves on the Editorial Review Board of the OMA Obesity Pillars Journal.
She has numerous publications and is a co-author of the OMA Pediatric Obesity Algorithm and Clinical Practice Statements on topics of pediatric obesity. She is a member of The Obesity Society, The Obesity Medicine Association, and the Obesity Section of the AAP. Dr. O’Hara is passionate about her patients and is dedicated to improving the health of the families with whom she works, with focus on providing care to those in rural and underserved areas.
