Martin Entwistle is Associate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Population Health for Marshall Medical Center (MMC).
His primary responsibilities are to oversee the medical operation of the hospital and clinics, to ensure the quality of care provided to patients and families, to develop and implement strategies in support of the organization’s mission to create a community
where everyone can attain their highest desired state of health and wellbeing, through the coordinated delivery of services meeting individual needs and optimizing the resources available. He is the executive lead for MMC workgroups facilitating the
adoption and use of AI solutions and systems for remote patient management and telehealth.
He has been a pioneer in the development of population level care management solutions, integrated with clinical workflows and electronic medical record systems. As founder and CEO of Enigma CKM Inc., a New Zealand based vendor, he created a patented
clinical decision support system for population level care management. The technology was acquired by Palo Alto Medical Foundation and further developed as Mpower™ to drive targeted health and wellness outcomes for prevalent diseases and
conditions. The solution was deployed within Sutter Health, a not-for-profit healthcare provider serving 2 million patients in Northern California, and was the subject of a number of studies including funding by the Moore Foundation for the development and
evaluation of a nurse-led care management program for hypertension and funding from the Federal Agency of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT for evaluation of a diabetes care management program using patient generated health data to
support remote patient management. At Marshall Medical Center, Martin’s work on the use of remote patient management and telehealth systems has continued with
a grant funded project to deploy tablet devices to a population in the area of Marshall Medical Center’s rural Georgetown clinic. This project focused on addressing social determinants of health, barriers to activities of daily living and connecting people
directly to care in their local community. He is motivated by opportunities to lead teams that have responsibility for pioneering health-focused business models that drive
future-thinking healthcare delivery solutions and turning these into scalable, sustainable programs impacting outcomes and experiences across populations and communities. In particular, models of care that bridge between consumer and clinical health
ecosystems, harnessing new technologies and funding models to transform care delivery.
Martin qualified as a physician (MB ChB) from Birmingham University, UK, specialized in trauma orthopedic surgery (FRCSEd), and received an MBA from Cranfield University, UK. He is a fellow of the Faculty of Rural Remote and Humanitarian Healthcare at the
Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FFRRHH) and was elected a Fellow of HL7 for his work as chair of the HL7 International Interoperability Standards Organization in New Zealand. His career has encompassed experience as a senior executive and as an entrepreneur that has included roles in clinical informatics, technology business startups, corporate leadership, operations, strategic planning, new product development, sales
and marketing. He is a recognized subject matter expert on care-management systems and has been a presenter at national and international conferences. He has worldwide healthcare experience from the USA, Europe, and Australasia.
