School-based health centers (SBHCs) are a practical model for delivering quality, accessible, youth-centered services, which emphasize prevention and reduce barriers. With the same goal of reducing barriers to care, telehealth has the potential to increase access to primary, specialty, and mental health care for students.
Many school-based health centers (SBHCs) transitioned to telehealth services as a strategy for meeting student health needs when the COVID-19 Pandemic forced the closure of campuses. With improved technology, broadband access, and a recognition of the importance of school-based health, telehealth has been identified as an opportunity to more widely and equitably serve students. The California Telehealth Research Center (CTRC) supports SBHCs as telehealth expands with our library of telehealth resources and educational opportunities.
