Federal lawmakers recently passed legislation making changes to federal mental health parity law. Specifically, the changes to federal law would set new requirements on how health plans demonstrate compliance with mental health parity rules. Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom last year signed into law SB 855, which requires state regulators to implement new rules expanding mental health parity requirements for health plans. The law also requires health plans to adopt new treatment criteria from non-profit associations. At this session, we will hear about how health plans are positioning to meet the requirements of SB 855, how these new clinical guideline requirements could work, and how the new federal law intersects with California laws on mental health parity.
